Ich hab soo lange drauf gewartet, weil mir die alte Doppelbandausgabe irgendwie zu viel Platz gekostet hätte (ich lese nicht umsonst fast nur noch im Kindle, Buchliebhaber ohne Adelstitel und riesiger Bibliothek im Herrenhaus wissen warum), der Miniband ist dagegen Liebe auf den ersten Blick. Ein Kostümfilm für die Augen.
Als Überblick ein schönes Buch. Wenn man genauere Abbildungen möchte, ist das eher die falsche Wahl. Die Bilder sind relativ klein.
Das Buch gilt als Klassiker, aber für mich als Illustrator ist es nur eingeschränkt brauchbar. Viele der dargestellten Trachten und Rüstungen sind zeitlich nur ganz vage und deshalb ungenau eingeordnet. Die Erläuterungen zu den Farbtafeln sind ein Witz. Hier hat man einfach wahllos die Namen der dargestellten Dinge aneinandergereiht, eine klare Zuordnung zu den Ziffern auf den Tafeln (die bestimmt einmal bestanden hat), gibt es nicht. Wirklich ärgerlich. Da gibt es mittlerweile deutlich bessere Übersichten, auch im Internet. Dieses Buch hat allerhöchstens noch nostalgischen Wert.
